Cut Flowers 101 Workshop
Join me on the farm for a relaxed and hands-on Cut Flowers 101 workshop, designed to give you the confidence to start growing your own beautiful, seasonal blooms at home using proven sustainable techniques.
Over ~2 hours, we’ll cover everything you need to know to create a thriving cutting garden—from understanding what makes a great cut flower and when to grow it, to seed starting, plant care, maintaining soil health, making compost tea, sustainable pest management, and how to dig and divide dahlias.
With my background as a Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS), a special focus of this workshop is soil health—because truly stunning flowers start from the ground up. You’ll learn how to better understand your soil and how to improve it using practical, sustainable techniques.
To make this experience even more interactive, I invite you to bring along samples of your own topsoil and subsoil. Together, we’ll run a series of simple, hands-on tests so you can walk away with real insights into your own garden setting! If you prefer to grow in pots bring a sample of your go to potting mix instead.
You’ll also get your hands in the soil with a guided seed planting session and take home a curated selection of seeds to kickstart your very own cutting garden.
Whether you’re a beginner gardener or looking to refine your skills, this workshop is all about learning, connecting, and growing!
What to bring:
~250g (1 cup) samples of your topsoil (0-0.1m below surface level) and subsoil (0.3m+ below surface level) from your growing space (or a sample your favourite potting mix)
a box/container to take some seedling trays home in
comfy closed in shoes, a hat and sunscreen (we will be in the flower field for the majority of the workshop)
